Everton - Debt
Everton's debt is shown below. Again the great improvement in 2005 was purely down to the sale of Rooney. Each year that the club loses money the debt figure worsens.
The leap in debt in 2008, and 2009, was from borrowings to "invest in the playing squad". The club are keen to point out that £22m of the debt will not be required to be paid for at least 5 years.
The note sin the accounts also point out that the club has no value in its books for the likes of Rodwell, Vaughan, Anichebe, Osman and Hibbert. This is a valid point, however they would only help reduce the debt if they were sold.
